Joseph J. Knox, a Woburn resident employed as a carpenter, enlisted at age 22, on August 25, 1862, in Company G, 5th Regiment Massachusetts Infantry. He mustered in on September 16, 1862 and mustered out on July 2, 1863. He renlisted at age 25, on July 21, 1864, as a Private in Company G, 5th Regiment Massachusetts, mustering in on July 27, 1864. He mustered out on November 16, 1864.
