Samuel R. French, a resident of Woburn employed as a tailor, enlisted at age 29 in Company G, 5th Regiment Massachusetts Infantry on August 23, 1862. He was mustered in as a Private on September 16, 1862 He mustered out on July 2, 1863. He again enlisted at age 31, on July 21, 1864, as a Corporal with Company G, 5th Regiment Massachusetts Infantry, on July 21, 1864, mustering in on July 27, 1864. He mustered out on Nov. 16, 1864.
Biography:
Born: Fall River, Mass. Oct. 12, 1832. Son of Asa F. and Diadema Gifford.
Married: Ellen L. Tyler of Woburn, Oct. 8, 1860.
Issue: Emma Louise (1862) Carl C. (1876)
Died: Woburn, Sept. 28, 1907.
Note: Buried Woodbrook Cemetery, Pine Ave. Lot No. 287.
