Service Record:
James W. McDonald, a North Woburn resident and leather manufacturer, age 33, enlisted and was commissioned 1st Lieutenant in Company D, 11th Massachusetts Volunteers, mustering in on June 13, 1861, He was commissioned Captain on Sept. 17, 1861 and Major on Aug. 30, 1862. Wounded on July 2, 1863 at Gettysburg, McDonald mustered out on June 24, 1864 as Major.
