Jacob Ames, a resident of Woburn employed as a shoemaker enlisted at age 39, on August 27, 1862, as a Private in Company G, 5th Massachusetts Regiment, mustering in on September 16, 1862. He mustered out on July 2, 1863. He later enlisted at age 40 in Company H, 59th Massachusetts Infantry on February 29, 1864 and was mustered in on March 12, 1864. He was wounded on July 30, 1864 in Petersburg, Virginia and was transferred on June 1, 1865, as Corporal to the 57th Massachusetts Infantry, Company H. He mustered out on July 30, 1865.

Born: Woburn, July 2, 1823. Son of Jacob & Henrietta (Higgins)
Married: Emily F. Richardson of Woburn, May 8, 1846.

Died: Woburn, Feb. 17, 1897.
