Edmund C. Cottle, a Woburn resident employed as a currier, enlisted at age 19, as a Private in Company G, 5th Regiment Massachusetts Infantry on August 27, 1862, mustering in on September 16, 1862. He mustered out on July 2, 1863. He also enlisted at age 21 as a Corporal in Company G, 5th Regiment Massachusetts Infantry on July 21, 1864; mustering in on July 27, 1864. He mustered out on November 16, 1864.

Born: Tisbury, Mass. Oct. 1, 1842; son of Edmund C. & Content Chase.
Married: Emma A. Howe. 2nd Clara I. Bowers of Woburn , March 2, 1882.
Issue: Alice H. (1872). 2nd Agnes E. (1886) Son (1884).
Died: Woburn, Jan. 13, 1903.
Note: Buried Woodbrook Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Ave. Lot no. 764.
