Service Record:
James R. Woods, a resident of East Boston, enlisted at age 22, on May 23, 1861, in the 1st Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers Infantry, Company B as a Private, mustering in on the same day. He transferred to Company B, 6th United States Cavalry in orders dated September 30, 1861 and discharged from there on May 19, 1864.
