Service Record:
John Gilcreast, employed as a farmer, enlisted at age 29, on July 22, 1862, as a Sergeant in Company K, 39th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers, mustering in on August 22, 1862. He was wounded on May 10, 1864 at Laurel Hill, Viginia and discharged for wounds on March 7, 1865 at Washington, D.C. as 1st Sergeant.

Born: Andover, July 1, 1833 s. Samuel & Betsey.
Died: Woburn, Nov. 4, 1911.
Note: Buried in Woodbrook Cemetery, Summit Ave, Lot 894.
Also "Gilcreast" and "Gilchrist" the latter in Andover V.R.
