Charles H. Foss, a resident of Woburn employed as a shoemaker, enlisted as a Private, age 38, in Company G, 5th Regiment Massachusetts Infantry on August 23, 1862. He mustered in on September 16, 1862 and mustered out on July 2, 1863. He reenlisted at age 39 as a Private in Company G, 5th Regiment Massachusetts Infantry on February 25, 1864. He mustered out on March 4, 1864 and was transferrred on June 1, 1865 to the 57th Massachusetts Infantry, also as a Private.

Born: Barrington, N.H. Aug. 20, 1823. Son of Samuel and Charlotte (Nute)

Issue: Roderick (1852) Edward E. (1867)
Died: Woburn, Feb. 7, 1911.
