Samuel Leeds, a resident of Belmont employed as a shoemaker, enlisted and mustered into the 16th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, Company C on Dec. 4, 1861. He was wounded on June 18, 1862 at Fair Oaks, Virginia and re-enlisted on December 23, 1863 as Corporal. He transferred to the 11th Massachusetts Infantry on July 11, 1864 and was promoted to Sergeant on November 1, 1864. He mustered out on July 14, 1865.
