Teen Room Recording Studio

A teen boy with long brown hair sings into a professional microphone, while a teen girl in a sweatshirt mixes sound files on a laptop next to him.Have you ever wanted to record your own music, mix your own beats, or create your own podcast? The Teen Room Recording Studio can help make that possible!

What is the Teen Room Recording Studio?

Created by the library’s SCI AmeriCorps Fellow in 2023 for the incredibly talented and creative Woburn teen community, the Teen Room Recording Studio is a converted arts & crafts closet equipped with the technology required to record and mix audio.

Since the Recording Studio is an extension of the Teen Room, it is for use by students in 6-12th grade (or equivalent) only.

What can I use the Recording Studio for?

Really? The possibilities are endless!

Our computers are equipped with Audacity, a software used for recording, editing, & basic audio manipulation. Import music or a beat to sing or rap over. Record vocals only to make a podcast. We’ve even had groups record their own instrumentals.

And if there’s something you want to try, the Teen Room staff are happy to help you make it a reality!

How do I use the Recording Studio?

The Teen Room holds Recording Studio Orientations and Open Hours on the first Thursday of the month (unless announced otherwise). Please see the calendar for upcoming sessions.

You must attend an Orientation session to familiarize yourself with the equipment before you use the studio. Once you have attended an orientation, you may record during Open Hours on a first come, first serve basis.

If you are certified to use the Recording Studio (by attending an Orientation), you may also ask Teen Room staff if you can use the studio during Teen Room hours.

Recording Studio Rules:

  • Treat all equipment gently and with respect. If you do not know how to use a piece of equipment or suspect that it is broken, please tell Teen Room staff.
  • Due to limited space, only 2 people are allowed in the studio at a time.
  • Always check in with Teen Room staff before using the recording studio.
  • The same rules that apply in the rest of the Teen Room apply in the Teen Recording Studio. Use library-appropriate language, NO FOOD ALLOWED, clean up after yourself, walk, use your indoor voice, and keep hands & other body parts to yourself.
  • Failure to follow these rules will result in loss of Recording Studio access.
